Darfur

Darfur is a semi-desert region of western Sudan where since 2003 a violent conflict has raged between rebels seeking greater autonomy and wealth and government forces and their allied militias. At least 200,000 people have died and 2.5 million have been forced to flee their homes in what the United Nations has called the world's gravest humanitarian crisis. These images were taken during two visits to Darfur in 2006.
